A Birding and Cetacean Safari on the Sea! 2027
These special longer boat trips will sail from the wonderful fishing village of Staithes in partnership with Sean Baxter aboard All My Sons. These trips will last approx. five hours. For a shorter three hour Seabird and Whale trip CLICK HERE.
On our Yorkshire Coast Nature Seabird & Whale Trips in 2026 we saw many seabirds including: Arctic Skuas, Great Skuas, Pomarine and Long-tailed Skuas, Manx Shearwaters, Sooty Shearwaters, Balearic Shearwater, Great Shearwater, Cory's Shearwater, Atlantic Puffins, Guillemots, Razorbills, Fulmars, Arctic, Common, Roseate and Black Terns, thousands of diving Gannets, Red-throated Divers, Common Scoters and much more including migrant song birds crossing the North Sea and even Peregrine Falcons. The Yorkshire coast, once famous for its whaling fleet which sailed from Whitby is now becoming famous for its whale watching!
In late summer Minke Whales appear, following the Mackerel shoals and Herring. These fantastic mammals are the most regularly seen large cetacean on our coast, watch the YCN video below from some up close whale action. Harbour Porpoise are with us throughout the year and seen on most of our trips. Bottle-nosed Dolphins are now being seen all year round on the coast in increasing numbers. In 2024 we also enjoyed great views of Humpback Whales!
These special five hour trips have been designed to allow the flexibility to target the best stretch of coastline depending on where the seabird and/or cetacean action is prior to the tour.
Throughout the trip you will have a great opportunity to learn about field craft and identification from our local expert guides in a small friendly group environment.
Each tour includes the boat trip and an expert YCN guide in a small group environment. The meeting point will be the harbour Staithes village in North Yorkshire. A meeting place map will be sent by email along with your booking details.

Access to the boat is by a short ladder from the harbour side
Payment must be made in advance of any booking. All bookings will be confirmed by email which will contain important details of your trip.

I cannot recommend the Seabird and Whale tour highly enough. Richard is immensely skilled at sharing his knowledge in such an engaging and informative way and this, in combination with Sean’s skippering expertise and knowledge of the local Yorkshire coastline, made for an unforgettable experience. With the added bonus of having Simon one of the local spotters onboard, we had a wonderfully successful trip which resulted in us being surrounded by minke whales, grey seals and diving gannets just 2.5 miles offshore - amazing!
